Three-toed box turtles should be kept in shallow water. They may drown and die in deep water. Three-toed box turtles prefer to live in shallow water and on land. The three-toed box turtle in its native habitat migrates from grassland areas to forest areas with the seasons. It is more drought-tolerant than other subspecies of turtles. In an artificial breeding environment, a large space is required, and there is no need to arrange a half-water, half-land environment. Just prepare a water basin for them to drink water.

Precautions for raising three-toed box turtles:

1. Three-toed box turtles are omnivorous. Their main food is berries, mushrooms, earthworms, snails and insects. In artificial breeding, 50% animal protein such as crickets, mealworms, small fish, etc., 40% vegetables and fruits, and 10% wild grasses such as alfalfa or dandelion can be fed.

2. Three-toed box turtles eat a lot of food. Adult turtles only need to be fed 2-3 times a week. Feeding in the early morning and evening is more in line with their foraging habits. They will look for a place after they are full. Hide and rest.

3. It is best to keep male and female turtles separately and keep them together for 1-2 weeks until mating. If kept together all year round, female turtles will be under greater mating pressure from male turtles and are more likely to lay unfertilized eggs, which may cause the female turtle to stop laying eggs or be forced to die.
