As we all know, dogs are different from people. Dogs have no sweat glands on their skin. They can only rely on rapid breathing to discharge most of the heat through the mouth, and a small amount of heat is discharged through the foot pads and a small amount of sweat. Therefore, under the influence of high temperature, high humidity and strong sunlight, dogs' body metabolism is strong, they produce more heat and dissipate less heat. The accumulation of heat in the body will cause meningeal congestion and central nervous system dysfunction.

Dogs are prone to heatstroke under the following circumstances:

1. Activities under strong sunlight, such as walking, training, and playing.

2. If the dog is kept in a closed room, in a dog cage, or in a car for too long, heat stroke may occur due to excessive temperature, poor ventilation, or lack of drinking water.

3. Dogs that are obese, have heart disease, have thick coats, and lack exercise are also prone to heat stroke.

Symptoms of heatstroke:

Body temperature rises sharply, reaching 40.5°C, shortness of breath progresses to difficulty breathing, the whole body is highly hypoxic, and the conjunctiva, oral mucosa, and tongue turn brick red, then black and purple. Due to meningeal congestion and brain damage, the increase in cerebrospinal fluid and cerebral pressure causes the dog to suffer from generalized spasms, protruding eyeballs, unsteady walking, sudden fall to the ground, convulsions all over the body, limbs in a swimming posture, and foaming at the mouth. If not promptly Treatment may result in death from pulmonary edema and heart failure.

Rescue measures:

If your dog has the above symptoms, you should immediately put it in a cool and ventilated place, put ice cubes on the dog's head, under the thighs, and inner thighs (if there is no ice cubes, you can put popsicles). You can also rinse the whole body with cold water to cool down, and Send to animal hospital immediately.

Precautionary measures:

1. Avoid activities of dogs under strong sunlight. Even after 4 pm, you should move slowly in the shade of trees and avoid running too hard.

2. When going out for activities, bring plenty of drinking water and replenish water from time to time. Drinking enough water is a good way to prevent heatstroke.

3. When taking your dog out, you must never leave your dog alone in a car, even for a short period of time.

4. For long-haired dogs and dogs with thick coat, the hair should be shaved to improve heat dissipation ability.

5. Obese dogs should pay attention to losing weight, because obese dogs produce high amounts of heat in hot weather and are more likely to suffer from heatstroke!
