Do turtles hibernate and change water?

Tortoises need to change the water when they hibernate, and the water needs to be changed regularly. Generally, the water should be changed every ten days or half a month. If the water is not changed for a long time, a large number of harmful bacteria may breed in the water, causing skin rot or nail rot in the turtle. If the water is not changed regularly, the bacteria that continue to multiply will affect the health of the turtle, and may even cause the turtle to die from infection while hibernating. When changing the water, the water level needs to be controlled below the back shell, and the temperature difference between the new water and the old water should not be too large. But if you change the tap water for the turtle, you also need to expose the tap water to the sun to remove chlorine. Also add cover to the pool where the turtle hibernates.

Things to note when changing water during turtle hibernation:

1. Reduce the number of water changes. It is not recommended to change the water frequently during the turtle's hibernation period. At the same time, you should be careful when changing the water to minimize disturbing the turtle's hibernation.

2. Ensure the water temperature is constant. When changing or replenishing water, use water that is not much different from the water temperature in the turtle pond to prevent the turtle from getting sick due to excessive fluctuations in water temperature.

3. Choose warm weather to change the water. When changing water in winter, it is best to do it on a warmer day or time. You can first check the weather forecast for the past week.

4. Check your health. By the way, check the health of the turtle to see if it has swollen eyes, floating eyes, etc. to ensure early detection and early treatment.
