Hermann's tortoises will hibernate under conditions growing in the wild. If you have no experience in caring for this type of tortoise, it is not recommended to hibernate Hermann's tortoises. Their mortality rate during hibernation is relatively high. For Hermann's tortoises less than 5 cm in size, their resistance is relatively fragile and they are more likely to die. If you have enough maintenance experience, allowing them to hibernate normally can extend their life to a certain extent.

Hibernation precautions for Hermann's tortoise:

1. The most suitable temperature for hibernation is between 5 and 10 degrees. Do not let the temperature fall below 3 degrees or above. 10 degrees will affect the health of Hermann's tortoise. The owner needs to check the temperature every 3 to 5 days.

2. Use a hygrometer to check the humidity of the air around the Hermann tortoise every three days. Once the humidity is lower than 40, you need to spray water into the turtle box to moisturize it in time.

3. Hibernation is not recommended for Hermann's tortoises under 3 years old. It is not recommended for Hermann's tortoises whose plastron length does not reach 10 cm. It is also not recommended for Hermann's tortoises who are underweight, weak or sick. Hibernation is also not recommended for turtles.

4. Increase the feeding amount one month before hibernation. It is best to feed mealworms at this time, as they are high in protein and calories. One week before hibernation, stop feeding and empty the food accumulated in the intestines.
