It is best not to keep Chinese tortoises in deep water. Although it has good water properties, Chinese tortoises raised in deep water have to expend energy to go to the surface to breathe. Turtles with poor physical fitness are prone to choking and may drown. The water depth for young turtles only needs to be up to their backs, and for adult turtles the water depth is 1 cm deeper than the turtle shell.

Life habits of the Chinese tortoise:

1. Breathe with the lungs. The Chinese tortoise has well-developed horny nails on its body surface, which can reduce water evaporation. Sexually mature Chinese tortoises lay their eggs on land and do not need to go through a fully aquatic stage.

2. Omnivorous. Animal feeds include small fish, shrimps, snails, clams, clams, earthworms and animal carcasses and offal; plant feeds include plant stems and leaves, melon and fruit peels, wheat bran, etc.

3. They like to live in groups in burrows. Sometimes due to too many groups, the carapace is worn smooth and the limbs are not scattered even after the skin is worn away.

4. Chinese tortoise shelling is an extremely rare phenomenon in nature.
