Symptoms of hookworm disease

Adult dogs will not show symptoms when infected with a small number of hookworm bodies. When puppies are severely infected, they will have pale mucous membranes, weight loss, thick and dull hair that falls off easily, decreased appetite, heterophilia, vomiting, digestive disorders, diarrhea and constipation alternating attacks. The stool is bloody or black. In severe cases, it is tarry and smelly. Puppies may suffer from skin inflammation, itching, ulceration, and erosion of the corners of their mouths, etc., until they become severely anemic, comatose, and die.

How to prevent hookworm disease

Hookworm disease mostly occurs in summer, and it is more likely to occur if the environment is humid and lacks ventilation. Make sure the dog's environment is dry, ventilated, and clean up the feces in a timely manner. For cages or toys that dogs come into contact with, clean and disinfect them frequently, or expose them to strong sunlight to kill insect eggs.

How to treat hookworm

Dogs can be injected with iodontrophenol solution, but pay attention to the dosage and it is best to be administered by a professional veterinarian.
