There are four types of coat colors for Australian Shepherds, namely blue merle, black, red merle, and full red. There is no distinction between these colors. Some Australian Shepherds have white markings on their hair. When selecting, you need to pay attention to the fact that the white collar cannot extend beyond the withers. White is acceptable on the neck, chest, legs, and under the mouth.

How to groom Australian Shepherd hair:

1. Pay attention to the order. Starting from the neck, from front to back, proceed from top to bottom, that is, from the neck to the shoulders, then back, chest, waist, abdomen, hindquarters, then the head, and finally the limbs and tail. During the combing process, you should comb one side before combing the other side.

2. Combing techniques. The hair should be combed and pulled quickly in the direction of the hair. The undercoat of a dog is soft and dense. If it is not combed for a long time, it will form tangles and even cause eczema, psoriasis or other skin diseases. When combing long-haired dogs, you should comb them layer by layer, turn the long hair up, and then comb the undercoat.

3. Choice of comb. Combs include bristle brushes, elastic wire brushes, and long, sparse metal combs. The brush can only fluff the ends of long hair, but cannot comb the fine hairs. When grooming long-haired dogs, a hair brush, a flexible wire brush, and a long, sparse metal comb can be used together.
