How to deal with serious ear mites in dogs

1. If the ear mites in dogs are serious, the first step in treatment is to isolate the dog. If you have a large number of pets in your home, be sure to isolate healthy dogs from dogs with ear mites and treat them individually. Because ear mites are so contagious, sometimes as long as one dog has ear mites, other dogs will also develop ear mites.

2. After bathing, pluck out the ear hair in the dog’s ears. It is recommended to let a professional doctor handle this step. Then clean the dog's ear canal, making sure to use a hemostat and cotton swabs. Never use cotton swabs, because the stick of the cotton swab is too hard and can damage the epithelial cells of the ear canal, causing bacterial infection and then otitis.

3. After cleaning the dog’s ears, apply medicine. You can go to the pet hospital to buy medicines, such as Lixinkang ear drops and compound acetylcarbaquin solution (for external use).

Symptoms of ear mites in dogs

1. It usually causes a large amount of ear fat secretion in the ear canal, and is prone to secondary suppuration.

2. The ears of dogs infected by ear mites itch violently, so the dogs often shake their heads and scratch their ears, which may sometimes cause bleeding in the external auditory canal.

3. When a dog is severely infected with ear mites, the lesions will spread to the dog’s forehead and behind the ears.

4. Dogs infected with ear mites will have dark brown wax and exudate in their ears. After dog ear mites spread, the affected dog may also develop epileptic symptoms.
