The Curly Bichon Frize existed in Europe before the 13th century, and was especially favored by the Spanish. This kind of dog originally thrived on Tene-riffe in the Canary Islands. Later, the Bichon Frize followed Spanish sailors and moved from one continent to another. In the 13th century, Italian sailors discovered this small dog, so they brought it to the European continent and became a pet dog for the aristocracy. In 1500, when France invaded Italy, the French were fascinated by the cute white fur of the Bichon Frize and took it back to France as a trophy. Introduced to France during the reign of Francis I in 1515, this breed of dog was at its peak from 1574 to 1589. And the lifelike and charming style of the Bichon Frize can be seen in several elegant paintings by famous Spanish painters. At the end of the 18th century, it declined for a time, and could only follow buskers and live in the streets. But after the 20th century, the Bichon Frize flourished again and became popular all over the world. This dog was officially introduced to the United States in 1956 and was recognized in 1972.
