Prepare some snacks that the cat likes to eat before training. Using food to lure the cat into training is the best way. First call the cat over, let it sit in front of you, give it a sniff of the food, and then take the food back. Then gently pat its feet with your hand and say shake hands, and see its reaction. If it does not lift its feet, pat its feet again. When it lifts its feet, immediately hold its feet and say handshake at the same time. Give it another mouthful of food, then quickly take the food away and put its feet down. Keep repeating this action, and the cat will slowly learn it.
Notes on practicing handshake with Somali cats:
1. If the cat has not learned to shake hands for a long time, you cannot be harsh on it, let alone hit it, to prevent it from developing a rebellious mentality and resistance. Training requires patience.
2. It is best to make the cat hungry before training, so that the training effect can be better. If the cat is trained on a full stomach, the cat may not cooperate.
3. Each training session should not be too long, no more than 5 minutes. Cats will easily become tired and their energy will be dispersed over time. If the cat is unwilling to shake hands, don't pull it forcefully, and rest appropriately before training.
