No, because chocolate contains ingredients that are toxic to cats, namely: theobromine and caffeine. Both of these ingredients are methylxanthines, which are absorbed and metabolized slowly by cats. They stay in the blood for a long time and can easily accumulate to dangerous levels, leading to symptoms of poisoning. Symptoms of poisoning usually appear within 6-12 hours of ingesting chocolate and may even lead to death. If you find that your cat has eaten chocolate, please take the cat to the pet hospital immediately.

How much chocolate intake is harmful to cats?

This depends on the type and brand of chocolate product and the cat's weight, individual sensitivity to methylxanthines. Different types of chocolate have different contents of theobromine and caffeine, and have different toxicity to cats.

According to some clinical statistics, when cats ingest: 20mg/kg, they may develop mild symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia, etc.; when cats ingest 40-50mg/kg, they may have cardiotoxic effects; Seizures may occur when ingesting ≥60mg/kg. In other words, if an 8-pound cat consumes 80mg of theobromine + caffeine, it will be toxic.

Different chocolates have different theobromine contents, which may cause different harm to cats. Theobromine and caffeine content: Baked sugar-free chocolate > semi-sweet chocolate beans > dark chocolate > milk chocolate. The theobromine and caffeine contained in white chocolate are very weak, so they are least harmful to older cats.
