Symptoms of tetanus infection in cats:

1. The joints will become spasmodically stiff, causing the cat’s walking gait to become stiff, and the cat’s tail to lift up. Typical opisthotonus posture.

2. Cats may also suffer from paralysis of the nictitating membrane and protrusion, enlarged pupils, difficulty chewing and swallowing, and salivation.

3. Extremely sensitive to external stimuli such as touch, bright light, and noise, with enhanced reflexes. The sick cat may become frightened, have trismus, have difficulty chewing and swallowing, salivate, and have difficulty breathing. In the end, sick cats often die of suffocation.

Treatment methods for cats infected with tetanus:

1. Inject tetanus antitoxin into pet cats. Tetanus antiserum is a specific drug for treating this disease. It can be injected intravenously at 100-1000 units/kg of body weight and used 2-3 times.

2. It is also necessary to strengthen the care of sick cats to reduce irritation. You can put sick cats in a quieter dark room and pay attention to feeding. Those who cannot eat should be rehydrated.

3. Measures should also be taken to prevent tetanus disease. If a cat suffers from trauma, foreign matter, necrotic tissue, and pus in the wound should be promptly cleaned and disinfected with 3% hydrogen peroxide.
