The head of a turtle usually sticks out after death. In winter, when it appears to be in suspended animation, its head is shrunk. To determine whether a turtle is dead, you can touch its limbs with something slightly sharp. If there is a reaction, it means it is still alive. If there is no movement at all, it means it is dead.

Signs of a dead turtle include softening of the shell, sunken, dry eyes, putting the turtle in the water without putting its head out of the water, etc. Therefore, you must pay attention to the condition of the turtle when raising it.

Causes of turtle death

1. If a turtle gets a disease, such as pneumonia, gastroenteritis, etc., and if the owner does not discover it in time, the turtle will become extremely ill and eventually die.

2. If the turtle is basked in the sun for a long time, it will cause dehydration. If not treated in time, the turtle will suddenly die due to dehydration.

3. Turtles need both water and air. If they are not exposed to water for a long time, they may dry out and die. If they are not exposed to air, they may suffocate.

4. As a cold-blooded animal, turtles have a slightly weaker ability to adapt to the environment. Sudden changes in temperature can cause sudden death of turtles.

5. The turtle itself is in poor health or is sick or injured. If the owner does not solve the problem in time, the turtle will die.

6. In summer, if the turtle eats rotten food, it will cause acute poisoning and death.

7. Deterioration of water quality or too much humus is one of the main reasons for the death of turtles.
