Cyanide poisoning

When dogs inhale high concentrations of gas or swallow a lethal dose of sodium cyanide, they can stop breathing, causing sudden death. Dogs poisoned by non-sudden death may have symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headache, nausea, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, palpitation, and disturbance of consciousness in the early stage, until they are complicated by respiratory failure and die. The clinical manifestations of severe poisoning and non-instantaneous death can be divided into prodromal stage, dyspnea stage, spasm stage and paralysis stage. However, due to the rapid progression of the disease, it is often difficult to distinguish each stage.

Arsenic poisoning

That is, arsenic poisoning. Because it contains sodium arsenite, calcium arsenate, lead arsenate, etc., dogs can be poisoned after eating it. Acutely poisoned dogs suffer from sudden severe abdominal pain, muscle tremors, diarrhea, vomiting, staggering gait, diarrhea, and thirst. The sick dog's hind limbs are paralyzed, the oral mucosa is swollen, and the gums turn dark black. In severe cases, the oral mucosa can be ulcerated and shed. Some dogs are excited, twitching, sweating, having cold body extremities, and some muscles are paralyzed. Prolapse of the penis can be seen in male dogs.

Poisoning by accidental ingestion of rodenticides

1. Poisoning by appropriate rodenticides. This is a powerful rodenticide, a white, odorless crystalline powder that causes the permeability of pulmonary capillaries to increase and a large amount of plasma to enter the lung tissue, causing pulmonary edema. A few minutes to a few hours after the dog ingests it, he will vomit, foam at the mouth, then have diarrhea, cough, difficulty breathing, depression, visible mucosal cyanosis, and foamy bloody mucus flowing from the nostrils. Coma and drowsiness usually occur 10-12 hours after ingestion, and a few die within 2-4 hours after ingestion.
2. Zinc phosphide poisoning. This is a commonly used rodenticide that comes in the form of a gray powder. A few days after ingestion, it mixes with water and gastric acid in the stomach, releasing hydrogen phosphide gas and causing severe gastroenteritis. The sick dog suffered from abdominal pain, not eating, constant vomiting, coma and lethargy, and rapid and deep breathing. Suffocation, diarrhea, blood in stool.

Organophosphorus pesticide poisoning

Organophosphorus is widely used in agriculture as pesticides, such as trichlorfon, dimethoate, dichlorvos, etc. Accidental ingestion can cause excessive salivation, tearing, diarrhea, abdominal pain, urinary incontinence, difficulty breathing, coughing, conjunctival cyanosis, muscle twitching, and subsequent paralysis, miosis, and coma in dogs.
