Dogs can’t last more than 2 hours after heatstroke

It’s midsummer now, which is the peak time for heatstroke in humans and dogs. Every summer, we see many dogs suffering from heatstroke in the hospital. Once a dog suffers from heatstroke for more than two hours without treatment or treatment, the mortality rate will reach over 90%! Therefore, if you find that your dog is prone to heat stroke, you should cleanly rinse it with cold water to cool it down to ensure the dog's body temperature. After cooling down, send it to the hospital for treatment immediately to prevent the dog from having an accident due to being too hot.

Symptoms of dog heatstroke

1. Mild heatstroke

Symptoms: drooling, panting, restlessness.

Solution: Loosen the collar and chest strap, and lower the ambient temperature. Move the pet to a cool place or give it an electric fan or air conditioner to cool it down, and then give it an appropriate amount of water to slowly recover.

2. Moderate heatstroke

Symptoms: difficulty breathing and sluggishness.

Solution: First wet the pet's body with ice water, or half-immerse it in the water. Be careful not to use all ice water when soaking to prevent the dog's body temperature from dropping sharply. Generally, water from the tap can be used. Send to the hospital immediately after emergency treatment.

3. Severe heatstroke

Symptoms: shock and coma.

Solution: First wet the body with ice water or wrap the whole body with a towel. You can also wipe with alcohol to cool down, or pour cold water from the anus into the rectum, and then send to the hospital as soon as possible. On the way to the hospital, be sure to lower the pet's head and straighten its neck to keep breathing smooth and prevent vomiting.

How to deal with heatstroke in dogs

When you find that your dog has heatstroke, you must respond immediately to avoid dehydration or missing the golden treatment time. Dogs with heat stroke will have symptoms of high rectal temperature, hunger and thirst; fatigue, frequent vomiting, confusion, bright red tongue with white secretions, and difficulty breathing. If you find that your dog can't walk outdoors and is panting rapidly, you should immediately take your dog to a cool place or indoors to avoid heat sources. If possible, you can blow or fan the dog to lower the dog's body temperature. Rinsing the dog's head and body with water can help the dog cool down. Do not use water that is too cold. If possible, let the dog soak in a pool or basin. But remember not to use ice water or ice, which will cause the dog's skin to shrink, accelerate heatstroke, and even shock.
