The reason why a dog’s eyes always shed tears: Eye irritation

There are many reasons that can irritate a dog’s eyes, such as having lotion in the bath. Water flows into the eyes; the eyes are pricked by grass or other things when going out to play; or smelling an irritating smell will make the dog always shed tears. However, this kind of situation will usually be cured without treatment. The dog's eyes will be flushed with a lot of tears and the things that irritate the eyes will be discharged. Generally, the condition will be obviously better on the second day, and completely healed on the third day.

Problems that require surgery: Trichiasis

Some dog breeds are born with trichiasis, which may not be obvious when they are young. The older the dog gets, the more obvious the tears will become. Trichiasis means that the dog's eyelashes do not grow along the outside of the eye, but one or two lashes grow into the eye. This will always irritate the eyeballs and cause constant tears. This kind of situation needs to be treated by surgery, which is somewhat similar to human double eyelid surgery. After the surgery, the problem of dogs always crying can be completely solved.

Problems that require eye drops or eye ointments: Eye inflammation

There are many reasons for dog eye inflammation. I can't tell the exact reason. When the dog’s eyes are constantly moist and the area around the eyes is red and swollen, it means that the dog’s eyes are inflamed. We can treat it with topical eye drops (usually chloramphenicol eye drops) and topical eye ointment (chloramphenicol or chloramphenicol eye ointment). Usually, there will be obvious improvement on the second day after taking the medicine, and it should be basically better within three or four days.

Nasolacrimal duct obstruction and ear problems

Dogs, like people, have internally connected organs in their heads, such as the nasolacrimal ducts mentioned above. Blocked tubes and ear problems may cause tears in dogs. However, we cannot detect these two types of problems intuitively, so we can only seek help from a doctor. So if your dog has ruled out the above three conditions, you should consider taking it to the doctor for a comprehensive examination.

Eating too much meat or offal

Personally, I think this is similar to people getting angry. To be precise, dogs don’t have constant bleeding as mentioned above. Tears, but just more tears, accompanied by excessive eye feces. For some white dogs, there are a lot of similar stains around the eyes. If you find that your dog's eyes are always dirty and teary, and there is no other physical discomfort, you should reflect on whether you have been feeding your dog too well recently.
