Guide to caring for newborn dogs

Owners of caring for newborn dogs need to pay attention to healthy puppies within 3 weeks of birth. They are usually chubby and whine because of pain, cold, hunger or loneliness. If the whining lasts for more than 20 minutes, attention should be paid. Sick puppies usually exhibit lameness, pale oral mucosa, and diarrhea.

1. Body temperature:

Newborn dogs cannot regulate their own body temperature, so it is best to maintain the ambient temperature at 29~32 degrees and the humidity at 55%~65%. If low temperature occurs, you can use insulation equipment and feed warm food to relieve it.

2. Cleaning:

The most important thing in taking care of a newborn dog is cleanliness, both the newborn dog itself and the environment. Streptococcus, a common bacteria found in dog feces, may cause infection once it comes into contact with the eyeballs, skin or umbilical cord.

3. Dehydration:

For newborn dogs, it is difficult to judge dehydration. A better way is to check the moistness of the oral mucosa.

4. Bacterial infection:

The clinical symptoms of many diseases in newborn dogs are quite similar, such as diarrhea, not eating, drop in body temperature, and whining. Once they appear, take them to the pet hospital for examination immediately. Find out the cause and prescribe the right medicine.
