Dogs cannot eat things like chocolate because they contain methylxanthine derivatives, such as theobromine, caffeine, etc., which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, muscle spasms, etc. Accelerated heartbeat or even shock can be life-threatening in severe cases, so dogs should not be given chocolates, especially small dogs or dogs with fragile and sensitive intestines.
