It is very important to know the due date of your cat. Cats will give birth within a few hours after the discharge of secretions from the birth canal before giving birth, and it will not take more than a day at most.

The gestation period of cats is about 62-68 days, with an average of 65 days. Some breeds of cats may be longer or shorter, but the fluctuation won't last more than a week. On the 59th to 63rd day of pregnancy, the nipples will begin to secrete milky white milk, and the delivery date is approaching. If the cat occasionally looks at its abdomen, becomes restless, licks its vulva, spontaneously looks for a quiet and comfortable place, paces back and forth, or shows signs of making a nest, it means that the cat is about to give birth. At this time, you need to always pay attention to the body temperature. The body temperature of the female cat will be slightly lower than the normal situation 12-24 hours before delivery, so the lowered body temperature can also be used as a sign before delivery. 6-12 hours before delivery, the pregnant cat stops eating and keeps licking the abdomen and birth canal. Secretions flow out of the birth canal intermittently, the breathing rate increases, and the cat squats or lies down intermittently.

It is important to note that if the mother cat’s birth canal secretions have a strong smell or purulent infection occurs, she should seek medical attention immediately to prevent the life of the mother cat and the kittens from being in danger.
