Feline pancreatitis, as an invisible killer, seriously threatens the life and health of cats. However, it is difficult to diagnose and treat it. The author believes that as long as you work hard and sincerely, the hope of cure is still very high. Today I will share with you the diagnosis and treatment process of cat pancreatitis.

1. Symptoms of pancreatitis in cats

Cats are fed high-fat food for a long time, or caused by blockage of the pancreatic duct such as roundworms, bile or intestinal juice reflux into the pancreatic duct causing infection, acute pancreatic damage caused by infectious peritonitis, trauma or trauma, and toxic side effects of certain drugs. , overeating, etc. may cause acute pancreatitis. It causes pancreatic ischemia and necrosis, and releases active proteolytic enzymes or lipolytic enzymes, causing pancreatic fibrosis, resulting in excessive insulin release and hypoglycemia.

Pancreatitis is generally more common in middle-aged and older cats. Cats suffering from this disease are generally overweight, and female cats are more common. And it is difficult to diagnose feline pancreatitis. Clinically, acute pancreatitis is characterized by abdominal pain, shock, and hypoglycemia. Chronic pancreatitis is mainly characterized by vomiting and indigestion. Sick cats are highly depressed, have reduced or nonexistent appetite, severe vomiting, and abdominal pain and sensitivity to palpation. In some cases, the cat may be seen lying on the ground with its forequarters and standing on its hind legs in a "praying posture." In severe cases, the blood pressure drops, the body temperature drops, and the patient is in a state of shock.

2. Causes of feline pancreatitis

Long-term feeding of high-fat food; pancreatic duct obstruction or infection; bile or intestinal juice reflux into the pancreatic duct causing infection. Due to the above reasons, pancreatic ischemia and necrosis result in the release of active proteolytic enzymes or lipolytic enzymes. Digestion of pancreatic tissue and surrounding tissue causes pancreatic fibrosis, resulting in excessive insulin release and hypoglycemia.

3. Treatment measures for feline pancreatitis

1. Analgesia, morphine hydrochloride 0.11-2.2 mg/kg, intramuscular injection. Pethidine hydrochloride 5-10 mg/kg, intramuscular injection.

2. Inhibit secretion, atropine 0.05 mg/kg, intramuscular injection.

3. Supplement electrolyte liquids to restore specific volume, blood pressure, and renal function to normal. Intravenous infusion of compound saline 20 mg/kg. At the same time, add ampicillin 25 mg/kg or gentamicin 20,000 to 50,000 international units.

4. If the condition is serious, you should consider fasting and drinking to reduce pancreatic secretion until the condition improves

5. Provide nutritious liquid food when needed
