Feline urethritis is not the exact name of a disease, but a general term for urinary system problems in cats. Therefore, there are many types of feline urethritis, and their symptoms are also different. Likewise, their causes are also divided into many types.

Cat urinary system problems, also known as feline urinary syndrome, is not an exact diagnosis, but a medical term used to describe a series of clinical symptoms. Includes bladder and urinary tract problems.

Cause of disease:

Whether feline urethritis is bacterial or not is difficult to judge from symptoms alone. A urine sample needs to be taken for a culture test, but even if the culture test result is negative, it cannot deny that it is bacterial. The old number seemed to be 70% non-bacterial, but my vet said recent research shows that the actual bacterial infection is much more, just hard to detect.

There are several causes of feline urethritis, bacterial infection, or infection during mating, bacterial infection caused by cystitis, urinary syndrome, urinary stones, and cats with oral infections such as gingivitis caused by licking the vulva with their tongue. At the same time, endocrine disorders when cats are depressed/frightened may lead to inflammation of the lining of the bladder, affecting normal urination, increasing the chance of bacterial infection, and thus causing more severe inflammation.
