The incubation period of feline coccidiosis is usually three to seven days. This is a disease in which cats excrete bloody stools caused by protozoa belonging to the sporozoite family. Sick cats show symptoms such as anorexia, weight loss, and anemia. Some cats can recover on their own in about 20 days after the onset of the disease.

1. Pathogens and Transmission

Coccidia is a type of protozoa that mainly lives in the intestinal epithelial cells of the small intestine or cecum. The oocysts will be excreted in the feces of sick cats and develop into infectious oocysts in a suitable environment. Healthy cats will be infected if they accidentally eat them.

2. Symptoms

If a kitten with poor resistance is infected with coccidia, it will have fever, loss of appetite, bloody stools, dehydration, and even death. If the number of infections is not large, there may not be the above acute symptoms, and the cat's body will develop immunity. . Adult cats infected with coccidiosis have no other clinical symptoms except diarrhea; and the body will naturally develop resistance. But even if the cat's symptoms disappear, oocysts will continue to be released in the feces and become a source of infection.

3. Prevention

If a cat has symptoms of severe diarrhea, it must go to a veterinary hospital for treatment; cats who have been infected should pay special attention to the disinfection and treatment of feces to avoid infecting other cats.
