Examination methods for canine scabies:

1. Understand the medical history, observe and distinguish clinical symptoms: focus on distinguishing food allergies, flea allergies and environmental allergies.

2. Positive ear-foot reflex: Rub the thickened area of the ear edge. If the sick dog reacts by scratching the ear with its hind foot on the same side, it is a positive ear-foot reflex. A positive ear-foot reflex in the presence of thickened ear margins generally indicates canine scabies, with an accuracy of up to 80%.

3. Microscopic skin scraping examination (shallow scraping): Check for the presence of scabies mites, nymphs and eggs. False negatives are common, and the detection rate of scabies mites in skin scrapings is only 20%. The best sampling location is the boundary between the elbow lesion area and the normal area, and the edge of the ear.

4. Serology: Detect circulating immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibodies against scabies mite antigens. This test has high specificity and sensitivity.

Treatment of canine scabies:

1. Selamectin 6~12mg/kg, use the drug once every 2 weeks for at least 4 treatments.

2. Oral treatment or subcutaneous injection of ivermectin 0.2~0.4mg/kg, once every 7 days orally, once every 14 days, subcutaneously, and the duration of treatment is 4~6 weeks.

3. Doramectin 0.2~0.6mg/kg is injected subcutaneously, once every seven days, and the treatment duration is 4~6 weeks.

4. Mebemycin oxime, 0.75 mg/kg, orally, once every 24 hours for 30 days. Or 2 mg/kg dose, taken orally, once every seven days for 3 to 5 weeks.
