Treatment methods for gastric torsion in dogs:

1. First release gas. An orogastric tube is used to release the gas, followed by gastric lavage with warm water to remove the gastric contents. If the dog struggles desperately, try inserting a needle directly through the body wall into the stomach to release the gas.

2. Inject drugs. In order to promote the early recovery of gastric peristalsis in dogs, 5-10 mg of neostigmine methyl sulfate can be injected subcutaneously once, 3 times each time, for 2 days.

3. Have surgery as soon as possible. Because a torsion of the stomach may cause necrosis of the gastric wall, the torsion of the stomach must be reduced. If gastric volvulus causes necrosis of the stomach wall, it must be removed.

4. Perform gastropexy. After the dog’s stomach is reset, gastropexy is performed.

5. Prevent torsion from occurring. Eat small, frequent meals every day, do not feed your dog from an elevated bowl, and slow down your dog’s eating speed. Avoid vigorous running and rolling exercises within an hour before and after meals, and do not allow your dog to suddenly drink large amounts of water after meals.
