Symptoms of dystocia in cats:

1. Generally, the gestation period of cats is about two months. If the cat has not given birth beyond the expected date of delivery, dystocia may also occur.

2. Usually a cat takes about 30-40 minutes to give birth. If the cat has not given birth for more than an hour, it means that the cat has dystocia.

3. If no kittens are born one hour after the cat’s amniotic fluid ruptures, it also means that the cat has dystocia, and more cats are born for the first time.

4. If it is found that the cat is in a depressed state of mind, the body temperature begins to slowly drop, dark red and fishy liquid flows out of the vulva, the abdominal contraction is weakened, and the whole body is weak when giving birth, it means that the cat has dystocia. The situation is already serious and it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time.

Causes of dystocia in cats:

1. Overnutrition (obesity): Breeders feed female cats too much nutrients during pregnancy, causing the fetus to grow huge , commonly known as "giant baby", which makes it inappropriate for normal delivery from the birth canal during delivery. In this case, a caesarean section is generally considered for the female cat during delivery.

2. Undernutrition: If the female cat has poor absorption capacity or suddenly loses weight during pregnancy, it is best to consider terminating the pregnancy. Due to insufficient physical reserves, fatigue in the late stages of labor is prone to occur, resulting in prolonged labor or delayed labor.

3. Narrow pelvic bone: The female cat’s pelvic bone is narrow, making it difficult for the fetus to deliver normally, resulting in prolonged labor.

4. Stress reaction: For example, when the room temperature is high on a hot day, the environmental heat stress reaction of the female cat during childbirth will cause the female cat's uterine contraction to be weak, eventually leading to a prolonged labor process.

5. Disease: Female cats suffer from sudden diseases, such as fever and diarrhea, which cause physical weakness and inability to exert energy during childbirth.

6. Pregnant too many fetuses: A female cat is pregnant with too many fetuses, which often results in delays in the delivery of subsequent fetuses because the female cat is exhausted.
