The female cat will usually lick the kitten’s afterbirth clean and eat the umbilical cord after 10 to 15 minutes. Try not to help the kitten cut off the umbilical cord artificially, otherwise the umbilical cord will be cut off prematurely, which will be harmful to the kitten. The cat's life is threatened. If the mother cat does not bite the kitten's umbilical cord after 10 to 15 minutes, then the kitten can be helped to cut the umbilical cord manually.

Precautions for postpartum care of female cats:

1. After the cat gives birth, try not to let other cats get close to it. Check whether all the embryos have been removed, clean the delivery room environment, and let the mother cat have a good rest.

2. Pay more attention to the psychology of the female cat after giving birth to avoid postpartum depression. It is still very dangerous if the kitten cannot eat breast milk, so you must help the kitten find milk in the early stage to ensure adequate nutrition.

3. Just in case, the mother can contact a doctor before giving birth so that if an accident occurs, she can seek medical advice at any time. If the female cat has persistent hypothermia or fever, lack of food, lethargy, low milk supply, or blood or pus-like discharge from her nipples or vagina, she should seek medical attention immediately.

4. Kittens and mother cats distinguish each other by smell, so do not bathe the mother cat. This will cause the kittens to not recognize the mother cat. And bathing is not necessarily a good thing for female cats. If the water temperature is not appropriate, female cats can easily catch cold.
