1. Cleaning and drying

1. Bathing

Bathing a poodle is a way to clean the dog's body surface, prevent and treat surface parasites, and increase the dog's lung capacity. Depending on the situation, the poodle bathing methods can be divided into two types: dry cleaning and wet cleaning.

Poodles under six months old should not be bathed in water when they are not particularly dirty. This is because puppies have weak resistance and are prone to respiratory infections, colds and pneumonia, so they should be dry cleaned. Another main reason for dry cleaning is that wet cleaning will affect the amount of hair growth, as well as the color and quality of the dog's coat. Poodle hair is long, curly, and bright in color, so it should be considered not to wet wash it too frequently.

Dry cleaning does not use water. Instead, use dry cleaning powder to sprinkle on the dog's hair. Wipe it off after 15 to 30 minutes, and wipe it upward. Be careful not to let the powder enter the eye sockets and nostrils to prevent the dog from inhaling it. Shampoos contain absorbent substances, such as talc, boric acid, and mild alkaline substances, which can remove excess oil and dirt, and also have the effect of refreshing and drying hair. All light-colored coats such as white and cream poodles are suitable for dry cleaning. When the dog's hair is too dirty or has too much grease, dry cleaning is not suitable.

When the coat is very dirty, wet cleaning can be used. The water temperature for wet cleaning should be 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. When the dog is bathed for the first time, it should be induced gradually and should not be forced. Otherwise, it will struggle hard when bathing it in the future. After the dog enters the water, lightly sprinkle water on its body, wait until it calms down, and then scrub its fur. After the coat is wet, apply dog-specific shampoo and rinse it off, then dry it with a dry towel as soon as possible. Use a hair dryer about half a meter away to dry the coat. Pay attention to combing the coat and drying the roots.

In addition, the following points should be noted when wet cleaning:

(1) Before taking a bath, use cotton balls to plug the dog’s ears to prevent sewage and detergent from flowing into the ears. The cotton balls should be larger so they can be easily removed after washing. When taking a bath, you can put two drops of mild olive oil and eye drops into the canthus of the dog's eyes in advance to prevent the shampoo from irritating the dog's eyes.

(2) Do not use cold water for bathing in winter. The water temperature should be around 40 degrees.

(3) Poodles should not be washed excessively to avoid knotting or shedding of coat.
