Causes of unsteady walking in dogs

1. Suffering from arthritis, hip dysplasia, or abnormalities in the dog’s lumbar spine, which will affect the dog’s normal walking. The dog may appear unsteady when walking.

2. If the body does not absorb the calcium it needs, unsteady walking will also occur when the body is severely deficient in calcium.

3. Being hit by an external force or falling from a high altitude can cause fractures and cause instability in walking.

Solutions to a dog’s unsteady walking

1. The owner should first carefully check the dog’s hind legs.

2. If the hind legs are weak due to trauma, iodophor and anti-inflammatory ointment should be used to treat the wound in time to avoid inflammation and ulceration of the wound.

3. If it is caused by internal injury, you need to take the dog to a DR examination to identify the location of the injury, and then use surgery to repair and treat it.

4. When the motor nerves are damaged, it is recommended to take the dog to a nearby pet for imaging examination to confirm the location and extent of the disease. After diagnosis, acupuncture or other methods can be used for treatment.

5. Weakness in the hind legs caused by long-term calcium deficiency requires emergency calcium supplementation. This is usually done by injecting calcium injections into dogs or feeding them special calcium tablets for pets. They also need to feed vitamin D to promote calcium absorption .
