Chow Chows perform particularly well as puppies, so many people neglect to train them. As a result, their personalities become even more difficult to train when they are adults.

1) Toys for training Chow Chow don’t need to be too complicated.

Some very common items can be made into "toys" for Chow Chow to play with. For example: wood blocks, large and small sponge balls, metal pipes of various sizes, chewable plastic toys, even plastic cars, toy dolls, etc. In short, a variety of common items can be made into toys for dogs.

2) Pay attention to the dog’s psychology when playing and training with Chow Chow.

The most important point in play is to let the Chow Chow puppy win. A puppy that never wins will cause the puppy to lose confidence. This kind of dog is difficult to train into a qualified competition dog or working dog. Don't correct your dog's mistakes during play, as this is fun time. For example, play with the dog with a pull toy and let the puppy snatch it away to make it the winner! If the Chow puppy returns the toy or runs to pick up a toy to the handler, show excitement , and happily give full rewards. Most Chow Chow puppies enjoy holding toys such as balls and sticks. Therefore, before training, you should understand what your dog likes to play most and prepare more. Often shaking a chewable toy on a leash can attract a dog's attention. A wooden peg with a ball attached to it can also interest the dog.

3) Training points in games with Chow Chow

When you find a wooden peg that is suitable for the dog's size, you can tie a sponge ball at both ends of the wooden peg, then hold the balls at both ends with your hands and point your fingers at the Chow Chow puppy. This can guide the puppy to concentrate. Be careful not to let the wooden peg move too fast, otherwise the Chow Chow will not be able to keep up. When providing toys to puppies, continue to tease and encourage them with words. For example, "Catch it, do you want it? Catch it." When the puppy receives it, the trainer will say, "You got it, you got it! What a good dog! Well done!" and so on. To get your puppy to pick up the toy, keep talking to the dog while running. When it follows, reward it fully, but do not allow the puppy to chew the play items.

When the handler wants to retrieve the toy, do not yank it out of the dog's mouth. If the Chow puppy does not yield, do not blame the dog, but use your thumb and index finger to gently press the lips of the Chow puppy's lower teeth while keeping the words cheerful and let the dog spit it out. During the process of training Chow Chow to play, dog owners should always maintain a happy mood and not be impatient. Only in this way can the Chow Chow feel that you like to play with it, so that it can be well involved in the game and enjoy your company.
