Reasonable and effective massage not only brings physical and mental health to dogs, but also relieves the pain caused by joint diseases. For older dogs, gentle massage can effectively accelerate blood circulation to the muscles and help them return to good condition. In addition, massage is also a platform for cultivating emotional communication between dogs and owners.

1. Massage the head in circles

Mainly use the back of the palm and the joints of the fingers to draw a circle from the top of the head in 1 and 1/4 circles, and repeat this action to the back of the neck.

2. Finger kneading massage

First, follow the spine area toward the tail. Gently, as if you are trying to pick up the fur, repeat the action until you reach the position above the tail end of the hip.

3. Rub your hands in circles

The palms of both hands follow the sides of the spine and draw circles outward at the same time. After the circle ends at the top, gently push and compress the skin. Repeat the action to massage the side of the thigh, then switch to the other side and repeat the above action.

4. Palm push and acupressure method

The palms of both hands follow the sides of the spine and move toward the lower abdomen at the same time, and then gently grasp the skin and flesh of the lower abdomen.

5. Back spine massage

Place the palms of both hands on both sides of the spine, and then gently and slowly slide it from the neck to the tail several times.

6. Superficial massage of chest and abdomen

When massaging the dog's right side, the owner should mainly stand on its left side. Use the left hand from behind the right ear, along the chest area down to the armpit of the forefoot, and move the right hand and then the left hand toward the upper side of the forelimb to massage. Extend the distance again, slide your right hand across your lower abdomen without moving your left hand, and then extend it from above your waist. This action is very helpful for gastrointestinal discomfort.

Things to note when massaging your pet dog:

1. Sort by status

All massages last approximately 15 minutes. This method is a stress-relieving and relaxing treatment. The owner can extend the time according to the situation. In addition, the above six sequences can be operated selectively or re-planned according to the dog’s current posture.

2. Improve body quality

For dogs, regular massage can improve their activity and quality of life, but massage cannot replace treatment. If there is a serious disease, the owner must go to the veterinary hospital for complete and detailed diagnosis and treatment.
