Methods to determine the age of kittens:

1. Observe the umbilical cord:

After the kitten is born, the mother cat will bite it and cut off the placenta. The umbilical cord is removed from the abdomen, leaving a small section of the umbilical cord hanging on the abdomen. After a week, the umbilical cord will shrink and fall off. If your cat still has an umbilical cord, it means it is less than a week old.

2. Observe the eyes

The cat will not open its eyes until 2 weeks after birth. If your cat's eyes are still tightly closed, it means the cat is less than 2 weeks old. On the contrary, it means that the cat has been born for 2 weeks or more.

3. Observe the teeth

Cats have two sets of teeth just like humans. The first set has 26 deciduous teeth, and the second set has 30 permanent teeth (called "adult teeth"). Examining the teeth is the best way to determine a kitten's age.

The growth process of deciduous teeth (3~6 weeks):

1. Within three weeks: no teeth.

2. About three weeks: the deciduous teeth emerge from the gums (the first ones to come out are the incisors, canine teeth at 3 to 4 weeks, and molars at 4 to 6 weeks).

3. About six weeks: all deciduous teeth have grown.

The growth process of permanent teeth (4~6 months):

1. 4 months: The small deciduous teeth of the front teeth will slowly be replaced by permanent teeth

2. 4 to 6 months: The small deciduous teeth of the canine teeth and molars will be gradually replaced by permanent teeth, until about 6 months old, all the teeth will be replaced. If all of your cat's permanent teeth have grown in, it means your cat is at least 6 months old.
