Causes of panting in cats:

1. This is normal after strenuous exercise. Cats generally recover after resting for a while.

2. Stress reactions, such as having a new cat at home, going to a strange environment, etc. Generally speaking, cats can calm down by removing the stressor. However, long-term stress can cause various chronic diseases.

3. The weather is too hot. Although cats can adapt to very high temperatures, if the ambient temperature is too high, cats will also stick out their tongues and pant. In this case, the cat can find a cool place and rest for a while to recover.

4. Asthma, if the panting is not caused by excessive exercise, too hot weather or stress, you should go to the doctor for diagnosis in time. If it is judged to be asthma, you can receive drug treatment.

5. Heartworm infection. Heartworm infection is common in dogs, but cats may also be infected. Heartworms are mainly spread through mosquito bites. Since it is difficult to completely prevent mosquitoes from entering indoors during the summer, heartworm infection cannot be completely avoided by keeping your cat outside. The best prevention method is regular deworming.

6. Congestive heart failure. If too much blood accumulates in the lungs, it may cause shortness of breath, coughing and gasping for air. This is a very serious problem. Heart disease in cats is actually not uncommon, and there are usually no symptoms in the early stages of heart disease. By the time symptoms are discovered, it is often too late. Especially for some breeds that are prone to heart disease, regular physical examinations are needed to avoid sudden death from heart attack.

7. Respiratory tract infection. When there is an upper respiratory tract disease such as pneumonia, the cat will breathe through its mouth to meet the amount of oxygen required by the body.
