The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a unique and original breed. Its name comes from its hunting ability and has nothing to do with other breeds. Its history is very long, specifically going back thousands of years. In the past, the Welsh Springer Spaniel was used for hunting. Now it is widely regarded as a family hunting dog! Its body leaves a deep impression on people: The forequarters are sloping and the hindquarters are well muscled without any roughness. In the 19th century, the Welsh Springer Spaniel was popular in the United States. In 1906, it was truly recognized by the American Kennel Club.

1. Head

The head of the Welsh Springer Spaniel is very balanced and stable, very distinctive, and different from the heads of other hounds! Its head and body form a certain proportion, the skull is moderate in length, dome-shaped, and the forehead is fresh , the outline under the eyes is more prominent! Its eyes are medium in size and oval in shape, ranging from dark brown to medium brown in color. The darker the color, the better. Yellow eyes are considered a disqualification. The ears and eyes of this dog are almost at the same level, and the skin is droopy and close to the face. The ears of the Welsh Springer Spaniel are small, have good hearing, become narrower toward the tip of the ear, and are slightly feathered. The length of the dog's muzzle is almost the same as the length of the skull. The muzzle is straight, without dewlaps, and approximately square. Its nostrils are well developed and are black or brown in varying degrees. Pink nostrils are not allowed!

The neck of the Welsh Springer Spaniel is strong and straight, slightly arched, and the throat feels very neat and beautiful, and is naturally connected to the shoulders. It has a flat topline, a slightly arched waist, and well-developed muscles. This dog has round buttocks, a well-developed chest, and a protruding front chest. Its ribs are well developed, reaching straight to the elbow, and have good stretchability. The dog's tail is set at a moderate angle and is carried slightly upward when the dog is excited. The shoulder blades and upper arms are almost the same length, and the forearms are moderately long and lightly feathered. Its bones are very well developed, with plenty of bone mass, but not bulky. The paws of the Welsh Springer Spaniel are round, the toes are compact and arched, and the pads are thick!

3. Hair and coat color

The coat of the Welsh Springer Spaniel is straight and silky, very soft in texture, but not wavy. It has thick and dense hair, which is waterproof and can withstand harsh weather. Its hind legs, chest and lower body are all covered with some feathers. There is less hair on the ears and tail. The owner must be appropriate. It is important to trim your dog's hair, because too much hair is not conducive to its activities in the wild, but do not trim it excessively and try to maintain its natural appearance!
