A hernia, in layman's terms, is the protrusion of an organ in the abdominal cavity through a natural hole or tear in the abdominal wall. Dog hernias mainly include umbilical hernia, scrotal hernia, perineal hernia, inguinal hernia, and diaphragmatic hernia. In a mild hernia, the prolapsed organ can be pushed back into the abdominal cavity through the hernia hole; in a severe hernia, the protruded organ cannot be pushed back into the abdominal cavity because the hernia hole is closed or the organ is adhered to the surrounding area.

Types of hernia

1. Umbilical hernia: Umbilical hernia refers to a disease caused by the abdominal organs and peritoneum of dogs entering the subcutaneous part of the umbilicus through the umbilicus.

2. Scrotal hernia: Scrotal hernia occurs mostly in puppies and evolves from indirect inguinal hernia. Its symptoms are that a lump can be seen or touched in the groin area, and there will be lower abdominal distension, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, constipation, and nutritional deficiencies. Uncomfortable symptoms such as poor absorption function, easy fatigue and decreased physical fitness.

3. Perineal hernia: Perineal hernia refers to the protrusion of the peritoneum and abdominal organs through the posterior connective tissue depression of the pelvic cavity into the subcutaneous part of the perineum. This disease is a common disease in older dogs. It usually occurs in male dogs over 6 years old who have not undergone castration surgery.

4. Inguinal hernia: The inguinal area is the triangular area located at the junction of the lower abdominal wall and the thigh. Inguinal hernia refers to a hernia formed by the internal organs in the abdominal cavity protruding to the body surface through the defect in the inguinal area, commonly known as "hernia". According to the relationship between the hernia ring and the inferior epigastric artery, inguinal hernia is divided into indirect inguinal hernia and direct inguinal hernia. There are two types of indirect inguinal hernia: congenital and acquired.
