A few days ago, I heard an owner who took his puppy to apply for a dog license complain: "To apply for a license, you need to get vaccinated. My puppy is very healthy. Is this vaccine necessary?" It is said that those who don't know are not strange, but Because people do not understand the importance of immunity and related knowledge, they make many wrong judgments and cause many tragedies. They are definitely an incompetent master. Do you know about vaccines? Do you know what that piece of vaccination certificate means? Do you know the importance of scientific immunization for dogs? Having a healthy puppy is like finding a loyal partner and friend in life. Ensuring their health is the commitment that every dog owner should give them...

1: Categories of dog vaccines

Generally speaking, domestic vaccines are divided into domestic vaccines and imported vaccines.

Among the domestic vaccines, only a few brands of vaccines are regular products that have been tested and approved by the relevant veterinary and veterinary drug departments. The rest are experimental products developed by scientific research institutions, research institutes or individuals; among them, the ones that users have reported the best are those developed by researchers such as Xia Xianzhu of the Military Supplies University. "Best" canine pentavalent vaccine. Domestic dog vaccines include seven-combination vaccine, five-combination vaccine, single vaccine, etc.

Several foreign brands of imported vaccines have obtained national batch numbers and have official domestic agents, including: Dutch Intervet vaccine, French Melia vaccine, American Pfizer vaccine, French VIC vaccine, etc. Therefore, when injecting, everyone should also understand whether the brand you are using is nationally recognized and what preventive effects are included in the vaccine dosage.

In addition, from many years of clinical observation in small animals, in terms of the protective power of dogs after vaccine injection, the clinical effect of imported combined vaccines is better than that of domestic combined vaccines.

The protective power of the domestically produced combined vaccine against canine parvovirus disease is no less than that of imported products, but the imported six-linked vaccine is still more effective against canine distemper virus. Domestic vaccines are cheap, and good products such as the Best Dog Vaccine developed by Professor Xia Xianzhu of the Military Commerce University and others are of good quality. The main shortcoming of domestically produced vaccines is that there are too many producers, the fish are mixed, and the quality is uneven. Especially when many people in the same unit produce the same product, it is difficult for users to distinguish the quality. The quality of imported vaccines is similar. Market share is mainly determined based on price, service and supply. The clinical disease prevention effect is satisfactory to users. If the dog travels abroad with its owner, it is also accepted by customs and veterinary quarantine departments around the world. Therefore, as much as possible, the dog should be injected with imported vaccines.

2: The "number of doses" of dog vaccines

When we vaccinate dogs, we often hear doctors say how many doses of vaccine are given, so what do these represent? Here is a simple explanation, in fact, the vaccine itselfThe body is also a type of virus, but general vaccines need to replicate the virus for more than 100 times to reduce its virulence, and then use it as immunogens. These immunogens are the vaccines we are using. For example, the current vaccine contains more than 10 million virus particles, and these particles can produce a certain value in the dog's body to prevent the virus. So what are the common deadly viruses now?

Generally, the most common vaccines nowadays are canine distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, canine parainfluenza, leptospirosis, etc., so the following combination vaccines will also appear

Rabies single dose: one shot, injected separately.

Two-part vaccine (puppies): prevents canine distemper and parvovirus

Quadruple vaccine: prevents canine distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, and canine parainfluenza

Six-linked vaccine: Add a preventive method to the quadruple-linked vaccine to prevent two types of leptospira (dogs under 3 months old cannot be vaccinated)

Seven-combination vaccine: Add rabies virus to the six-combination vaccine

Eight combined vaccines: canine distemper, parvovirus, infectious hepatitis, canine adenovirus, canine parainfluenza, leptospira, coronavirus, hemorrhagic jaundice leptospira (produced by Pfizer)

The eight-part vaccine is a relatively special vaccine. It is a vaccine that is only commonly seen abroad. Generally, in Taipei, the eight-part vaccine plus a single vaccine for rabies is injected. Mainly, this vaccine provides the most complete protection and can also prevent coronavirus. However, there is no approval for this vaccine in China yet. In winter, we see many dogs getting coronavirus, and currently only this eight-combination vaccine can prevent it.

3: Vaccine injection cycle and usage

I believe this is the most important part, because I have seen many people making mistakes in this regard, and there are too many different opinions on the Internet, so I hope to put forward some correct methods here. Let me explain one thing first. Vaccines produced by different manufacturers have different injection times and methods. They should be injected on the 42nd to 45th day after birth (the number of doses for the first injection is also different due to different brands)

The first shot: 42-45 days after the puppy is born (two doses)

Second shot: 15-30 days apart (quadruple or five-drug or six-drug)

The third shot: 15 to 21 days later (five or six doses) or seven doses (plus rabies). Dogs must be at least three months old to be vaccinated against rabies. It is recommended that the dog be vaccinated at five months old.

4: Attention should be paid to vaccination

1) Puppies must not be sick when vaccinated. Such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, etc. If you have these conditions, it is best to wait until you recover before injecting

2) Many times, before the dog has received the vaccine, many dog sellers will give the dog a serum shot, this is also a method to prevent the virus in the short term, but after the self-clearing injection, vaccination must be done 21 days apart. It will not be eliminated by the serum after vaccination

3) Many times after a dog becomes sick, changes in the environment (such as being fostered in a pet store), water changes, etc., will cause the number of antibodies in the dog's body to decrease. At the same time, the dog is in an area, such as some foster care pet stores or The hospital itself has already had dogs infected with the virus, and it is also an epidemic area. If the dog is in it, the chance of infection is extremely high.

4) Wrong injection method: As mentioned above, premature vaccination or improper vaccination can also cause vaccine failure.

5) Improper management of vaccines. The vaccine itself can only grow at a certain temperature. Generally, manufacturers recommend storing it at a temperature of 8 degrees. Many vaccines purchased online are very dangerous, because even if they store some dry ice or the like when they are shipped, they can only be stored for 4-5 hours at most. During long-distance transportation, the goods may be exposed to the scorching sun. Or it may be at different temperature differences, which may be quite dangerous when you get it in your hands. It is best to find an institution with a national batch number or a hospital with high credibility for vaccination, which is also more secure.

6) The vaccination for dogs and cats is valid for three years. However, based on China’s epidemic prevention regulations, dogs need to be vaccinated once a year.

5: Common vaccines on the market

INTW:

Puppy DP vaccine → Puppy DP brown cap + DILUENT red cap (diluent)

Quadruple vaccine → DHP + DILUENT

Wulian vaccine → DHPPi dark blue cap + DILUENT red cap (diluent)

Rabies vaccine → RABIES sky blue cap (aqueous solution) (can be used for both cats and dogs)

There is a quadruple vaccine for dogs on the market with a Chinese label, which is actually a five-link vaccine. The "H" in DHPPi (pentavalent vaccine) represents hepatitis virus, which also includes canine adenovirus II (CAV II). The Chinese label only notes "quadruple vaccine", which is the same type of vaccine as the commonly known five-drug vaccine. Prevent canine distemper, canine parvovirus, canine infectious hepatitis, canine parainfluenza, and canine adenovirus type 2.

Vic:

Six-link vaccine → DHA2PPi/L powder bottle has a green cap, and the solution has a yellow cap. The L refers to Lepto (Leptospira)

Seven-link vaccine → DHA2PPThe i/LR powder bottle has a green cap, and the solution has a yellow cap. LR refers to Lepto (leptospira) and Rabies (rabies) respectively
