Canine scabies (mite disease) is caused by the parasitism of canine scabies mites. This disease usually occurs in autumn and is more common in dogs with poor skin hygiene. Scabies mites are small and gray or yellowish-white in color. Slightly round in shape, the head, thorax, and abdomen are not clearly distinguished. The body surface is composed of tough horny skin with some bristles, spines, and scale-like structures. The mouthparts are located at the front end of the insect body, and there are 4 pairs of conical limbs on the ventral surface, some of which have suckers attached to the ends of the limbs. The male worms are smaller than the female worms and their number is much less than that of the female worms. The shape of eggs is similar to that of adults, but they only have 3 pairs of limbs. Scabies mites mainly occur in winter, late autumn, and early spring. Because there is insufficient sunlight in these seasons, the dog's fur is long and dense, especially when the kennel is humid, the dog's body hygiene is poor, and the skin surface temperature is high, which is more suitable for scabies mites. Development and reproduction.

【Clinical symptoms】

Scabies mites often start on the bridge of the nose, cheeks, ear bases, and armpits. At the initial stage, small red nodules appear on the skin, which later turn into blisters. After the blisters rupture, thick yellow oily exudate flows out, and the exudate dries to form fish-like scabs. There is severe local itching, and the sick dog often scratches the affected area with its claws or rubs it on various objects on the ground. When scabies parasites are on the outside of a dog's ear, the skin of the ear becomes inflamed, with a large amount of serous fluid exuding, and often secondary suppuration. The sick dog keeps shaking its head and scratching its ears, even causing bleeding in the external auditory canal, and sometimes rotating to the side with more serious lesions. Movement, later lesions may spread to the forehead and the back of the ear shell.

【Rehabilitation Treatment Measures】

You can prepare your own liniment: 10 grams of realgar, 10 grams of sulfur, and 100 ml of soybean oil. Boil the soybean oil and add it to the above medicine. After it cools down, rub the affected area. You can use 60 grams of sodium sulfate and 40 ml of water, mix well and rub the affected area. After drying, apply 5% hydrochloric acid with another brush. You can also use 10 grams of Peruvian gum, 5 grams of fish oil, and 85 ml of alcohol. Mix well and rub the affected area, and then apply it again after 5 to 7 days. Rubbing the affected area with sulfur ointment is also effective.

【Rehabilitation health care and prevention】

Sick dogs should be isolated and treated promptly, dogs should not be allowed to live in damp and dark kennels, and kennels and management tools should be cleaned and disinfected regularly. Foreign dogs must be quarantined before they can be kept in groups. Kennels and utensils used to raise dogs with scabies need to be disinfected before use. For dogs suffering from scabies, special attention should be paid to the health care of the dog's body surface. The dog's fur should be combed and bathed frequently, and the dog should be dried immediately after bathing.
