How to potty train a dog in a crate?

Defecation training in the box is a common training method, which is mainly used for toilet training of newly born puppies. The specific method is as follows:

1. Before buying a dog, you should prepare an uncovered carton box or wooden box for the puppy, put some plastic sheeting inside the box (small breathable plastic mats are also good), and put some newspapers or straw on top. Place the box in a corner of the room.

2. In the first 2 weeks after you have just purchased a dog, if you have free time, you should catch it in the box every hour and keep it in the box for a few minutes until it defecates. Or if you find signs of defecation such as restlessness, circling, sniffing, tail-raising, squatting, etc., you should lead or carry it into the box in time to let it defecate. Over time, the puppy will become accustomed to defecating in the box.

3. Every time it defecates in the box, you must praise it and say it is "good", "good" and "really obedient". It is best to pat it gently or touch its head, neck and back. Or where it likes to be touched most, you can also give it a few pieces of food as encouragement. Dogs are relatively intelligent animals. If you repeat it a few times, they will understand that your encouragement is the correct behavior, and they will be willing to defecate in the box in the future.

4. Once the puppy forgets to defecate in the box, you should immediately grab the dog, press the nose to its excrement, and scold it sharply to make it know that this is punishment. Then put the dog into the box and ask it to smell. After 2-3 times of training, it will remember to defecate in the box.

Tip: If your dog still refuses to obey training, you can buy a special dog deodorant and spray it on the areas where you don’t want your dog to urinate to stop the dog from peeing there. You can also use bleach, water or vinegar to scrub the area where it defecates to eliminate the odor so that it can't smell it next time and won't defecate there.
