Dogs cannot live without water, but how much should they consume in a day?

Water is an indispensable substance for dogs to maintain normal physiological activities and metabolism. Water accounts for more than 60% of an adult dog's weight and about 80% of a puppy's weight. The digestion, absorption and operation of various nutrients in the dog's body, the excretion of metabolites, body temperature regulation, endocrine, blood and lymph circulation, lactation and other physiological and biochemical processes are inseparable from the participation of water. Dogs’ demand for water far exceeds their demand for food. When lacking water, dogs will show symptoms such as irritability, thirst, reduced appetite, slow digestion, etc., and their resistance to diseases will be reduced due to dry mucous membranes and skin. Long-term dehydration in dogs will lead to deep-set eyes, rough and inelastic skin, and even circulatory disorders due to thick blood. In severe cases, it may lead to death.

China Famous Dog Network recommends that under normal circumstances, adult dogs need 80 to 120 ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day; puppies need 140 to 170 ml of water per kilogram of body weight per day. The amount of water consumed varies depending on the season, feed type and management methods. In actual breeding, drinking water can be provided throughout the day for dogs to drink freely.
