When cats are scratching objects, they also have this habit: they always like to scratch in the same place or part. This is because cats’ feet are rich in glands that secrete thick, smelly fluid. During the scratching process, when the mucus is rubbed on the surface of the scratched object, the smell of the mucus will attract the cat to scratch at the same place again. For domestic cats, if you don’t pay attention to the training of cats, they will often scratch furniture and floors.

Before training, you should prepare a wooden post, about 70 cm long and 20 cm thick, and fix it upright near the cat's nest to facilitate the cat's scratching. The texture of wooden posts should be solid. During training, bring the kitten to the wooden post, grab the cat's two front legs with both hands, place the two front feet on the wooden post, simulate the cat's scratching action, so that the secretions of the glands on the cat's feet can be released. Can be applied to wooden posts. After many times of training, coupled with the attraction of the smell of secretions, the cat will scratch on the wooden pillars. After forming a habit, the cat will no longer scratch on the furniture.

For cats that have developed the habit of scratching furniture, during training, they should first cover the outside of the furniture being scratched with plastic boards, wooden boards, etc., and then place a solid wooden pillar or board at an appropriate position in front of the furniture being scratched. , and then use the same method as above to train the cat to scratch on wooden posts or wooden boards. After the cat develops the habit of scratching on the wooden post or board, you can slowly move the wooden post or board until it is moved to a place you think is suitable. Each time you move a wooden post or board, the distance should not be too large, preferably 5 cm to 10 cm, and you must not move it too hastily.
