Mr. Bai’s biology class | What to do if the cat knocks on the door

Obviously, this is a question of animal behavior.

Animals are not real objects, they have their own psychology. You need to have a deep understanding of animal psychology to solve this problem.

I am not studying animal science, just biology. I am interested in animals, and even more interested in animal behavior, so I will give you a rough idea of what I think. Not necessarily correct, just for reference.

The first reason why cats knock on the door at night is that they sleep too much during the day and cannot sleep at night.

And cats are originally nocturnal animals. It's normal to feel energetic at night.

Therefore, the first way to solve the problem of cats being too energetic at night is to make the cat tired during the day and go to sleep at night. Cats should never be allowed to sleep too much during the day.

The owner is busy during the day, and the cat at home only occasionally eats, drinks, and sleeps. This won't work. Although it is natural to be energetic at night, it is contrary to human nature, so this nature should be changed. It can also be changed. It doesn’t have a big impact on the cat’s body.

How to change it? It is best to let the cat play during the day when it is young. I'll definitely go to bed at night when I'm tired. After a month or two, I got used to it.

The premise is that you should have two cats. A cat cannot play. You don't have time to play with it all the time.

Of course, the cat is older now, so it can’t be changed.

Then there is nothing we can do?

Of course there is a way. The second way is to let the cat in when it doesn't want to come in.

Cats are very curious animals. Felines love to explore. Especially exploring your own territory. In fact, they treat the family as their own territory. Although it is a little small, I can bear it.

This is why cats may not recognize you once they leave the house. It feels that you are a member of its territory, whether you are a brother or a slave. Once it enters a new territory, it will be very nervous. What can the owner eat?

So, you need to let it explore its own territory. See clearly everywhere. And definitely don't chase it out. Let it see enough. No matter where it is, if you leave it alone, it will soon get bored.

Never rush it. Don't ban it from your bed. You should allow it to go to bed. You can lay a plastic sheet on the bed in advance. Cats hate sticky things. You can stick double-sided tape on a plastic sheet. The cat will feel very uncomfortable when it goes on it and will naturally not stay for a long time.

When cats have explored what the bedroom is like and know what they don’t like, they will naturally stop knocking on the door. There is no need to close the door when sleeping at night. It is your master, how can you have an independent space? That is the territory of other people’s cats. Cats will occasionally patrol their territory, but it doesn’t matterTie. You can lay a plastic sheet over your bed every day when you go out. Cats won't like your bed.

However, you need to make a particularly comfortable nest for the cat. Warm and comfortable, you can lie down any way you want. In this way, it will naturally not find another nest. Cats are too lazy to find a nest. Just one will do. Moreover, cats are very insecure, so the nest should be as small as possible and not too big. You see cats like to dig into small things.

Keeping pets is not that simple. If you don’t understand the psychology of pets, you won’t be able to raise them well. Relatives who get along day and night must have a good understanding of psychology.

If you are also interested in animal behavior and pet psychology, welcome to follow my column, Adolescence Classroom - Zhihu Column

The reason why it is called the adolescence classroom is that animals spend almost their entire lives in adolescence. This is very different from humans. Of course, the article will also contain content about human adolescence. Hope you like it.

Recommend a book. A book by Taiwanese animal behavior expert Dai Gengji. He is also a role model for me to learn from. Available on JD.com.
