How to clean your dog’s ear canal

The dog's ear canal is L-shaped, and it is easy to accumulate wax, dirt or moisture. It needs to be cleaned regularly and kept dry, otherwise it will easily cause ear canal inflammation and breed a large number of fungi and ear mites.

Items to prepare: Hemostatic forceps, cotton (or cotton swabs), ear cleaning solution, and ear medicine.

Steps to clean your ear canal:

1. First fix the dog’s head and ears, then turn the ears over and pull out the ear hairs in the ear canals to ensure that the ear canals are not restricted by the ear hairs. Pour the ear cleaning liquid into the inside of the dog’s ear canals ( 2-3 drops);

2. Knead the ears thoroughly to shake out the medicine;

3. Wrap cotton with hemostatic forceps and wipe off excess ear fluid from the outside of the ear canal. If hemostatic forceps are not available, baby cotton swabs can be used instead;

4. Squeeze the ear medicine into the inside of the ear canal and press once;

5. Fully squeeze the root of the ear canal to spread the liquid evenly.

Attention should be paid to cleaning the ear canal:

1. Do not use other things to replace ear cleansers. Commercially available ear cleansers probably have the functions of dissolving cutin, dissolving ear wax, mild sterilization or bacteriostasis, and cleaning. It is very dangerous to randomly use other things to replace it, which may cause burns to the dog's ear canal or even eardrum burns.

2. Don’t be too rough when cleaning the ear canal to avoid damaging the skin of the dog’s ear canal.

3. Clean once a week, at the same time as bathing.

4. If you have ear disease, you need to clean it once a day until the dog recovers.
