Cats, like children, cannot be over-loved. There are many examples of cats developing many bad habits because of their owners’ excessive love. Many cats are overweight or extremely picky eaters, which may be caused by their owners feeding the cats casually while they are eating. Here are some ways to correct your cat’s bad habits.

1. Correct the cat’s habits and diet

1. Bulimia in obese cats

Cat obesity refers to cat obesity caused by excessive food intake. Starvation therapy or food reduction therapy can be used to reduce food and weight for cats and achieve normal conditions.

2. Anorexia refuses to eat

Anorexia is a manifestation of a cat's lack of appetite, which manifests as a refusal to eat certain or special foods. Anorexia can easily cause an imbalance in nutrient intake, which can lead to a cat's body function disorder or disorder, so medical measures need to be taken for treatment.

3. Pica and disordered eating

Pica is an abnormal eating behavior, mainly manifested by ingesting substances other than normal food. When you see a cat exhibiting abnormal feeding behavior, spray water on it immediately. The cat will escape immediately if it is suddenly attacked.

4. Correct the indiscriminate eating of plants

Cats can become enemies of indoor plants. It may chew off leaves and flowers, dig up soil, and use flower pots as toilets. Prepare a pot of grass for your cat, or spray dilute lemon juice on your houseplants, as cats hate lemon juice.

5. Correct cats’ love for destruction

Cats instinctively need to scratch to exercise their claws, but that doesn’t mean you should allow your cat to scratch your favorite new sofa. Give cats toys or scratching sticks, which can satisfy the cat's scratching needs.

When the cat uses the scratching stick, it should be praised and caressed. If it finds that it is scratching other things, it should be corrected quickly.

6. Correct the cat’s tendency to urinate indiscriminately

Some cats often spray urine on the walls of the house, clothes, refrigerators, radios, bookcases, the owner's bed, kitchen utensils, etc. This is a form of enclosure behavior in cats. This behavior is more severe in uncastrated cats than in castrated cats.

Whenever a cat owner finds a cat spraying urine, he immediately sprays the cat with a water gun because the cat is afraid of water. This abnormal behavior can be corrected over time. However, the owner needs to be properly educated and not to spray water excessively.

2. Cultivate good eating habits in cats

1. Kitten diet

For the first few weeks of life, kittens rely entirely on breast milk and do not need additional food. During this period, the ideal growth rate should be 100 grams per week. However, due to the influence of nutrition, breed and female cat weight, there are great differences between different individuals.

(1) Three weeks after birth of kittens

Three or four years after birth4 to 5 times a day for weeks to 2.5 months. Dry cat food can be mixed with hot water and cat milk and then given to cats. Just after the weaning period, give it in small amounts and increase the frequency. Some cats will suffer from diarrhea if they consume cow's milk, so milk specially formulated for cats should be used.

(2) Two months after the cat is born

3 times a day from 2.5 months to 6 months after birth. Give your cat dry food directly, and be sure to have fresh water nearby so it can drink. 2 times a day for cats from 6 months old to adult.

2. Change eating habits

Changing a cat’s eating habits requires a process, which takes about a week. First, break up the things it likes to eat, and then mix the new food together in a ratio of 1:6, new food 1: 6 things it likes to eat.

Reduce the amount of old food by 20% every day and fill it with new food, and so on. On the seventh day, you can feed all new food.

3. Regular and quantitative feeding

Regular feeding can make the cat’s gastric juice secretion and gastrointestinal motility more regular, enhance hunger, and is of great benefit to food intake, digestion and absorption, and is more conducive to growth and development. Irregular feeding will make it difficult to control the amount of food fed and will also disrupt digestion and absorption.

4. Don’t condone cats’ gluttony

Do not allow your cat to develop the habit of eating meat. Eating all meat will cause indigestion, difficulty in absorption, and diarrhea in the kitten. It would be better to choose Birugi cat food. Birugi cat food is natural cat food and contains a variety of nutrients.

5. Feed small amounts and frequent meals

You must pay attention to the feeding of kittens. It is more appropriate to eat small meals frequently. This is because the digestive system of kittens has not yet grown up and its function is relatively weak. If too much food is fed at one time, it will put a great burden on the digestive system of kittens. However, you should also pay attention to regular and quantitative meals when eating small and frequent meals, and do not change them at will.
