Cats’ reproductive cycles are complex and unique.

In fact, whether it is during the estrous cycle, pregnancy, or delivery stage, all kinds of interesting things will happen.

Many people are surprised and confused when a female cat that is confirmed to be pregnant goes into heat again. She will behave exactly like a normal non-pregnant female cat in heat. Once she is successfully mated by a male cat, she will scream and roll around. Typically, this occurs within 3 weeks of the first successful mating.

At first you may wonder if she is actually pregnant. But after she gives birth, you will be sure that she is really pregnant.

▍Can litters be born after two matings? If a female cat mates again 3 weeks after pregnancy, will she become pregnant again? Will she give birth to another litter? Most veterinarians and experts believe this is impossible. Logic suggests that maintaining the hormonal balance required for pregnancy will not allow the initiation of a new pregnancy.

What would be the result if a kitten was born during the second mating? The first litter of kittens was delivered normally, followed by several premature babies.

So, if a premature baby is born, it must be caused by this reason?

The answer is: not necessarily.

There are various reasons for premature babies. For example: uterine infection in female cats during pregnancy, poor attachment of the embryo-placenta, imbalance of hormone levels in female cats, etc.

Although we usually take it for granted that a successfully fertilized egg will develop into a kitten.

However, this process is extremely complicated, so any small "error" may lead to fetal abnormalities.

▍Strange things: A breeder once told me such a thing. After a normal pregnancy, a female cat went into heat again in the 3rd week and mated successfully again. The due date came and 4 kittens were born, 3 of which were developing normally and 1 was immature. Judging from the color of the hair, the immature cat can only be the result of a successful second mating. This once again proves that it is possible for fertilized eggs to develop into kittens after secondary mating, but they will all be born as premature babies - unable to survive.

Many veterinarians believe that even if a pregnant female cat is in heat and mates, she will not become pregnant again because no eggs will be produced. But the truth may not be that simple, as noted above.
