Before going to the toilet, dogs will often turn around a few times before arching their bodies and getting ready to go to the toilet.

Why do they turn in circles before defecating?

1. Find the magnetic field.

Research shows that dogs have the ability of "magnetic field sensitivity". When they excrete, they like to keep themselves in a north-south orientation.

It’s like adjusting the body to the direction of the earth’s axis before it can go to the toilet with peace of mind.

2. Safety.

Dogs lack a sense of security. In order to prevent themselves from being disturbed when pooping, they must first check whether the surrounding environment is safe.

Drive away insects and other small animals that may disturb it from going to the toilet.

3. Prevent piercing the buttocks.

Tread down the flowers and plants around your favorite place to avoid accidentally touching your butt when you go to the toilet.

This is also a measure for dogs to protect themselves.

4. Preparing for bowel movements.

Just like we like to rub our bellies in the toilet, dogs should exercise before going to the toilet to promote intestinal peristalsis and make their bowel movements more obvious.

By spinning in circles, you can cultivate the urge to defecate and allow yourself to expel the poop smoothly.

5. Demarcate the territory.

The dog spins in circles to flatten the ground, telling the passing dogs: This place is mine!

Moreover, flattening an area can allow the smell of urine and feces to spread farther, making the territory marked by oneself clearer.
