Cultivation of cat grass

I often hear cat friends say that they cannot grow cat grass, especially ryegrass, which cats love most. The characteristic of this kind of grass is that it is not tolerant to cold and heat. The suitable growth temperature is between 10 degrees and 25 degrees. It also has certain requirements for the growing environment and space. I have tried several methods and found that it is easier for seedlings to emerge and can be harvested for more than half a year:

1. Buy a plastic basin with a diameter of more than 50 cm.

2. Buy two types of matting materials named "moss" and "coconut soil" online. My turtles use this bedding material when they hibernate every year. When they wake up in the spring, they no longer need it, so it can be used to grow cat grass. These two materials have excellent air permeability and are rich in nutrients. The planting effect is comparable to imported humus soil. They are also very clean. There is no need to worry about parasites and they can be used repeatedly.

3. Buy annual southern ryegrass seeds and alfalfa seeds. The two grasses can be planted together.

4. Lay a mat about 20 to 30 centimeters thick in the pot. The mat needs to be mixed. The seeds should be sprinkled below a depth of one centimeter. Water them thoroughly and avoid direct sunlight.

5. Wait five to seven days for the seedlings to emerge and proudly display the results.

6. Watch your own cat feast.
