Pudding hamsters will change color because their genes are unstable and they are a genetic mutation. When they grow up, they will turn black or white. Those that turn black are called black puddings, and those that turn white are called white puddings. Very few hamsters do not change color, and some pudding hamsters may even change color many times in their lives. At the same time, seasonal factors may also affect the coat color of pudding hamsters.

How to identify the discoloration of hamsters

1. Breeders can observe the roots of the hair on the back of pudding hamsters when purchasing. Generally, the color of the roots is dark. Hamsters will most likely turn black when they grow up, while the root hair is light-colored, and they will most likely turn white when they grow up.

2. Breeders can observe the color of the pudding hamster’s parents before purchasing. If the pudding hamster’s parents are light-colored, the pudding hamster will most likely turn white, and vice versa.

3. When the color of the pudding hamster is similar or exactly the same as that of its parents, the pudding hamster may not reverse color. Of course, this situation is relatively rare.
