Notes on dog name-calling training:

1. Do not call the dog’s name when the dog’s attention is distracted. When the dog is focused on other things, call the dog's name, and the dog may ignore your call back. If this happens often, it will reduce the dog's sensitivity to the name, making the command gradually invalid.

2. Don’t call the dog’s name continuously. When you call your dog's name and your dog doesn't respond, wait for a while and then call your dog's name again when you notice your dog paying attention to you again. Because constantly repeating the dog's name will also reduce the dog's sensitivity to the name and make the password invalid.

3. Call the dog’s name when you are sure to call it back. Before calling the dog's name, you should first observe the dog's status and make sure the dog's attention is on you. This can ensure the success rate of recalling the dog every time you call the dog's name. And every time it is successfully recalled, there must be a corresponding reward, such as petting its head or rewarding it with a snack.

4. Don’t call your dog’s name when you are angry. When your dog does something wrong, don’t stop it by calling your dog’s name. Don’t reprimand or punish your dog corporally after calling your dog’s name. This will make the dog have a negative association with the name. When it hears you calling its name in the future, it will not be willing to run back to you, because it will think something bad will happen next.

5. Call the dog’s name only during commendations and rewards. When we call the dog’s name, we must make the dog 100% aware that something good will happen. After the dog returns to you, be sure to reward it with snacks or verbal praise or petting.
