Here are the common diseases of dogs and cats

In January 2021, iCHONG sampled 53,642 valid cases to produce the "2020 China Pet Health Report". The reported cases cover pet hospitals in 12 urban areas in China. The incidence of pets of different categories, ages, genders, and body sizes is statistically analyzed and monthly incidence statistics are made.

The important conclusions of the report are summarized below, hoping to be helpful to practitioners.

The time distribution of pet illness and medical treatment

The time distribution of pet illness and medical treatment is relatively balanced. Except for February and December, the number of medical visits in other months fluctuated around the average.

 ➡Skin diseases mostly occur in summer and autumn.

 ➡Digestive system diseases mostly occur in the first half of the year.

 ➡Sterilization mostly occurs in spring and autumn.

Common dog diseases

The top five canine diseases are: skin diseases, digestive system diseases, immune deworming, physical examination, and respiratory diseases.

 ➡The proportion of male dogs suffering from reproductive system diseases and tumors is lower. Female dogs have a lower rate of ear canal disease.

 ➡Digestive system diseases are the most common in small dogs, followed by skin diseases and respiratory diseases; skin diseases are more troublesome in medium-sized dogs, followed by digestive system diseases; skin diseases are still the most common disease in large dogs.

 ➡Puppy diseases are relatively evenly distributed; common diseases in adult and elderly dogs are skin diseases and urinary system diseases.

 ➡The age groups with the highest incidence of canine diseases are mainly before 2 years old and after 11 years old. Among them: the causes of onset before the age of 2 are relatively scattered, and cardiovascular diseases, tumors, urinary system diseases, oral system diseases and other diseases are more common after the age of 11.

Common cat diseases

The top five cat diseases are: sterilization, immune deworming, physical examination, urinary system diseases, and digestive system diseases. The proportion of medical visits for skin diseases and infectious diseases is very close to that of digestive system diseases.

 ➡The proportion of male cats suffering from reproductive system diseases and tumors is lower. Female cats have lower rates of ear canal diseases, orthopedic diseases, oral diseases, and cardiovascular diseases.

Systemic and oral diseases.

 ➡The age group with the highest incidence of cat diseases is mainly before 2 years old. 1 to 2 years old is the peak period for cat neutering; the peak period for reproductive system diseases, cardiovascular diseases, oral diseases, and urinary system diseases are all during the 1 year old period. The age of 8 and 10 is the period of high incidence of cardiovascular diseases, and the period of high incidence of oral diseases after the age of 11.
