Chinchillas can reproduce all year round, but the gestation period of chinchillas is relatively long, about 110-120 days, and the lactation period is about 45 days. The owner should not let it give birth to babies frequently, as this will affect the health of the chinchilla. Generally, it is enough to breed once a year. Chinchillas need a lot of preparation before breeding. Breeding can begin when chinchillas are about one year old.

Preparation before breeding chinchillas

1. The owner must first select two chinchillas that are suitable for pairing, including those with suitable colors and that can get along together.

2. After selecting two chinchillas, start preparations for cage closing. Put the two chinchillas in two cages respectively, so that they can slowly become familiar with each other's smell. Let the two chinchillas out together to see if they fight. If they don't fight, you can try to close the cage. If they don't fight, they can live together normally.

3. Observe the physical condition of the chinchillas in the same cage. You can supplement them with appropriate nutrition. Over time, they will naturally start to mate.
