1. The skin of the dog’s abdomen will appear pink during labor. The breasts will also be swollen and full, the mammary glands will be full, and the nipples will be pink. Some dogs produce a small amount of milk before giving birth.

2. As delivery approaches, the dog’s pelvic ligaments begin to relax, the ischial joints of the buttocks sink, the hindquarters become soft, and the buttocks collapse significantly.

3. Before the dog gives birth, the feces will become thinner, the frequency of urination will increase, and the amount of excretion will decrease. Loss of appetite and abdominal pain may also occur.

4. They will be depressed, restless and anxious before giving birth. When it is close to giving birth, the dog will constantly use its front feet to scratch the floor, mats, etc., similar to nest-building movements.

5. The dog’s body temperature will first drop and then rise before giving birth. First, it drops from the normal 38~39.5℃ to 37.5~36.5℃. The closer to the time of labor, the lower the body temperature will drop. In 24 hours, their body temperature will basically be close to 36°C. When there is a rebound, it indicates that labor is imminent.
